She remained connected to her AFJ family over the years and after earning a degree in Criminal Justice, applied to work on the same team as her mentor Nelson at Avenues for Justice. Elsie was more than prepared to provide her with the same guidance and support that she had received from Nelson. Elsie, like Nelson, advocated for Anastacia to receive wraparound services at AFJ—such as extensive mental health services, tutoring, mentorship, and daily life skills and job training workshops instead of incarceration.

A second chance meant that Anastacia was able to go to college to study nursing. Today, she is a healthcare worker and mother to a beautiful toddler.
