Vista mce overscan

This is my experience with MCE I used custom resolution timings to get a perfect pixel map, with perfect sharp text using things like Internet Explorer etc. I've just updated to Vista and was disappointed to discover that there is no chance to use custom video timings. I was having overscan issues with even the VGA output to start with, but in the end I could correct all of these by using the PC Settings on the Panasonic and am now back to a first class image over VGA.

I will say at this point I haven't tried the DVI cable on Vista, but since MCE was so rigid at forcing the resolution back to lines all the time that I assume Vista will do the same. I made a couple of registry files that I use to fix this if I need to and I do! I can't remember which does which, but one lets me see the whole picture and brings in the user interface elements Windows Registry Editor Version 5.

Hi, not everybody has access to overscan setting. HP has driver with no control panel for now, so I cannot do nothing with default overscan setting. More interesting question is - WHY? There is no reason for such "feature" - or more likely a bug, flat displays TV's are usually connected through HDMI - where in principle each pixel of signal in full HD case is represented by one on screen. I do not need scaling or overscan options at all. So why is overscan ON as default when nobody needs it?

It leads to confusion only. Sunday, November 29, AM. Sunday, November 29, PM. Monday, January 11, PM. Thanks bsoulier! Tried this yesterday and it worked!! No more black borders in Media Center. Monday, January 18, AM. Yes, yes, yes!!! I changed my setting to 60Hz 3c and that finally fixed my problem! Thank you!!!! Sooooooo happy about this.

It's been bugging me for a week. Tuesday, March 9, AM. Adjusting this registry key refresh rate to 60Hz 3c as fixed my problem as well! I still think this is a bug in Win7 MCE Friday, April 2, PM. Sunday, May 9, AM. I have done reboots etc but no joy.

Any suggestions? Friday, September 10, PM. It's refers to XP, but they are still in W7 Have a sneaky feeling that unless you've altered them, something else has caused it, but it may do the trick for you.

Hope that helps and thanks to the previous posts for getting me to the right keys! Monday, December 27, AM. Now it works great :. Monday, January 3, PM. Media Player, meanwhile, will show the full picture. I've tried about every combination of display type and resolution in WMC, and it always overscans TV. Even if the resolution creates a full screen picture that's a small rectangle in the middle of the otherwise black screen, the picture is still overscanned and cuts off the edges of the TV program.

With sports programs, it always cuts off most of the scores placed on the margins. Sunday, October 27, PM. To be honest it was only working intermittently in WinXP MCE because there seemed to be some issues with it restoring itself after sleep mode. The aim of NAS is for me to have a central storage area for my documents and media library so that each of my PCs two desktops, a dual-boot laptop and the media PC in the lounge can access this single up-to-date set of files. It also means I only have worry about backing up this central location — with all my important files on the NAS, each PC really only has its Operating System and applications installed on it.

No end of problems with this, mainly down to a slow response time over the network. Not good. This device has been relegated to simple USB hard drive caddy now and is used for periodic backup purposes. Finally I learnt my lesson and spent some real money on NAS.

So, in summary, Vista Media Center works nicely on my low-power media PC original spec here and only a few hardware tweaks were required:.
